[Mailman-Users] subscribing mailman via mail?

hi,

i am runing a few lists on mailman,
and i want users to subscribe via email.

1.
a) what is to be written in the subject-line of a mail if a user wants
to subscribe via mail (without web-interface?)
b) ...to subscribe the "daily digest-option"

2. who to send it to? listname-request at listprovider.net?

i could not find any information on this in the documentation.
or is there an online-manual on this somewhere?
