VersionControl_SVN (in its current form) is a PHP4 package
unfortunately.

PHP5 introduces E_DEPRECATED, which will be implemented in Phing (see
http://phing.info/trac/ticket/372)

Description:
------------
Hi,

I am using VersionControl with phing and I am getting the following
error when I run the build. (It was working in previous version of php)

[PHP Error] Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated
[line 459 of /usr/share/pear/VersionControl/SVN.php]

Line 459 is "$obj =& new $class;"

Thank you in advance..

if (include_once realpath(dirname(__FILE__)) . "/SVN/{$cmd}.php")
{
if (class_exists($class)) {
$obj =& new $class;
$obj->options = $options;
$obj->_svn_cmd = $lowercmd;
$obj->_stack =
&PEAR_ErrorStack::singleton('VersionControl_SVN');

$obj->_stack->setErrorMessageTemplate(VersionControl_SVN::declareErrorMessages());
$obj->setOptions($options);
return $obj;
}
}
