We are unable to reproduce the bug as reported.
Please provide a simple script (10 lines or less)
or a link to an external script that can be used
to reproduce the bug.

If you can provide the script, feel free to add it
to this bug and change the status back to "Open".

Thank you for your interest in PEAR.

Ok I've tried to reproduce it on a 5.3 system to no avail. Here's my
steps:

cd /var/git/
git clone git://github.com/kvz/system_daemon.git
cd system_daemon/examples
root@dev:/var/git/system_daemon/examples# ./nopear.php
[Apr 21 20:20:01] info: Daemon not yet started so this will be
written on-screen
[Apr 21 20:20:01] notice: Starting nopear daemon, output in:
'/var/log/nopear.log'
root@dev:/var/git/system_daemon/examples# tail /var/log/nopear.log
[Apr 21 20:20:01] info: Daemon not yet started so this will be
written on-screen
[Apr 21 20:20:01] notice: Starting nopear daemon, output in:
'/var/log/nopear.log'
[Apr 21 20:20:01] info: Changed identify to 'root':'root'
[Apr 21 20:20:01] info: Daemon: 'nopear' spawned! This will be
written to
/var/log/nopear.log
[Apr 21 20:20:01] info: Stopping nopear
root@dev:/var/git/system_daemon/examples# php -v

The example script located in the System_Daemon package at
"examples/nopear.php" gives the same error, and is probably a good test
case.

Hey Joseph,

Would it be possible to supply a script that gives you this error?
Then I can try it on a 5.3 machine.

Cheers!

This should have been fixed in 10.2 but something in went wrong in the
    release
procedure. I've confirmed 10.3 packs the correct fix. Please try that
    version
