Description:
DreamHost is looking for a DevOps Developer that has experience in large
scale environments. We need a full stack developer with experience
developing, maintaining and improving existing and new product
architectures. Strong Perl experience is required, and experience with Ruby
or Python is desireable. Experience building and growing large scale
monitoring and datastore infrastructures with technology such as Logstash,
Splunk, Redis, Graphite, and ElasticSearch is a plus. This role will
involve end-to-end development of hosting products and systems with support
from a group of Linux admins, software developers, and security and network
engineers. It is preferred that this position sit in either of our Los
Angeles or Portland offices, but we are open to a telecommuting arrangement
for the right person.



Responsibilities

- Design and deploy new
applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and
operating systems on track and budget.
- Collaborate with network staff to
ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling
business objectives and processes.
- Create and maintain documentation as
it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service
records.
- Ensure uptime and proper functioning of all servers, shared
software, groupware, and other applications, including database, e-mail,
web/front-end, and backup.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare
and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
- Create and
maintain kernels and OS packages; plan and perform upgrades.
- Provide
general assistance for Tech Support and Datacenter Operations staff;
participate in an on-call rotation for critical customer emergencies.

Review new and existing systems design projects and procurement or
outsourcing plans for compliance with standards and architectural plans.

Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.

Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for
modified and new systems.
- Conduct research and ROI analysis on software
and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing
efforts.

Desired skills:
Requirements

- BS/MS in Computer Science or relevant field preferred.
- 5+
years experience designing and writing complex, scalable applications with
an emphasis on web applications and data-driven architectures.

Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent architecture and technical support documentation skills.
-
Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends,
standards, and products as required.
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks
in a high-speed, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to effectively
present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of
directors.
- Experience with automation tools, ideally Chef.
- Proven
experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of
software systems, applications, and related products.
- Proven experience
with systems planning, security principles, and general software management
best practices.
- Excellent software troubleshooting experience.
- Working
technical knowledge of Perl, Python, Bash, and PHP programming languages.
