FAQ
Nitin,

In most cases you don't need to specify anything inside the <jar>
</jar> tags, unless you have not named your jars according to the
convention. To reference xxx.jar in your example, you can just
specify "xxx" in <id></id> as this is what it should be identified as
in the local rep. It explains quite nicely in the
docs:http://maven.apache.org/reference/project-
descriptor.html#dependencies

Will <jar>/opt/lib/xxx.jar</jar> work ... I have that jar location like
/opt/lib/xxx.jar
xxx.jar is not build by me ... xxx.jar can be dom4j.jar / j2ee.jar etc.

<dependencies>
<dependency>
<id>rapide</id>
<jar><jar_location></jar>
<version>SNAPSHOT</version>
<properties>
<war.bundle.jar>true</war.bundle.jar>
</properties>
</dependency>

Nitin,

I not so sure what you mean by "use local jars". If I am not mistaken,
you would like to refer to local jars that you may have already built
as dependencies ?

You can say something like this:
.......
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<id>rapide</id>
<jar></jar>
<version>SNAPSHOT</version>
<properties>
<war.bundle.jar>true</war.bundle.jar>
</properties>
</dependency>
........

If you look at the maven docs:
http://maven.apache.org/reference/project-descriptor.html#dependencies
it will explain.

Can you explain me how to use Local jars in maven...
To compile my project ... My Ant Builds are working but I need a maven
documentation/build now!

Subject: Please help ---- Reactor

Hi,

I posted a message a few days ago and I did not get any response.I am
not making any progress and I will be grateful to you for any help.

I have to following project structure:

c:\
- MAVEN
- JAR project
- maven.xml
- WAR project
(depends on JAR project)
- WAR project
(depends on JAR project)
.......

Each project is building fine individually. I would like to set up the
reactor. I have used an example that I have found saved this in the JAR
project's maven.xml file. Now, when I run "maven build -X" it comes
back as a "successful build". It is clearly not doing what it should do
as it only takes four secs to do this and there is only a few lines in
the trace (that is even using "-X"). None of my project.xml files use
inheritance.

Setting up the reactor is probably very trivial , but I have been going
around in circles and I am not getting anywhere.

Regards,

Vipul

    You can install files directly into $MAVEN_HOME/repository, and as
    long as your version dependency isn't on "SNAPSHOT" (a literal string
    with special meaning to Maven), maven will see the local copy, accept
    it as satisfying the dependency, and go on.

    In this case:
    At 7:06 AM -0400 5/6/03, Verma, Nitin (GECP, OTHER, 529706) wrote:

    </dependency>

    You'd want to make sure this existed:

    $MAVEN_HOME/repository/xxx/jars/xxxvvv.jar

    The URL is not used to download the JAR, although I saw that one of
    the developers I work with made this assumption at first. The URL is
    just used in the site documentation when the dependency list is
    generated.

    If for some reason you can't put the jars into
    $MAVEN_HOME/repository, you can use runtime maven properties to
    override various jar dependencies. I haven't bothered with this, but
    it's definitely in the docs at http://maven.apache.org From what
    I've seen on the lists, some of the plugins have had (may still have)
    bugs regarding honoring the overrides.

    If you do have a local webserver repository that you want to use in
    addition to, or instead of www.ibiblio.org, set the Maven runtime
    property maven.repo.remote to one or more URLs representing the root
    of the server's repository. This is explained in the Maven user's
    guide at maven.apache.org.

    If you use any common open-source projects, your life will be easier
    if you make sure you have access to the iBiblio.org repository when
    you use maven, and if you make sure to use the standard values for
    <dependency> elements in your POM file.

    Do you have a REPOSITORY/xxx/jars/xxxvvv.jar file? Doesn't look like it.
    Downloads happen if the file can't be found locally.

    Looks like you are missing <package> in your project.xml, eg:

    <package>com.germuska.neo</package>

    This would normally appear after <inceptionYear>, before <logo> at the

    maven -Dpackage=com.germuska.neo genapp

    and look at the generated project.xml.

    Looks like you are missing <package> in your project.xml, eg:

    <package>com.germuska.neo</package>

    This would normally appear after <inceptionYear>, before <logo> at the
    top level of your project.xml. If you can't see what I mean, go to a new
    directory and type:

    maven -Dpackage=com.germuska.neo genapp

    and look at the generated project.xml.

    You can install files directly into $MAVEN_HOME/repository, and as
    long as your version dependency isn't on "SNAPSHOT" (a literal string
    with special meaning to Maven), maven will see the local copy, accept
    it as satisfying the dependency, and go on.

    In this case:
