I think it would be great if there was a version of Luke that always worked with trunk - and it would also be great if it was easier to match Luke jars with Lucene versions.
While I'd like to get GWT Luke into the mix as well, I think the easiest starting point is to straight port Luke to another UI toolkit before abstracting out DTO objects that both GWT Luke and Pivot Luke could share.
I've started slowly converting Luke's use of thinlet to Apache Pivot. I haven't/don't have a lot of time for this at the moment, but I've plugged away here and there over the past work or two. There is still a *lot* to do.

    Mark Miller commented on LUCENE-2562:
    -------------------------------------

I've done a quick hack and slash update to Lucene/Solr 4.3 and uploaded some screen shots of the latest state of this.

To run it, simply check out https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/lucene/sandbox/luke and run the main class org.apache.lucene.luke.ui.LukeApplication

Currently, it's a full eclipse project so there is no build step or ant script or anything.

    Mark Miller commented on LUCENE-2562:
    -------------------------------------

It's been a long time, but the last time I talked to [~rcmuir] about this, I think we came to the conclusion that the best way forward would be to tie up these basic features and perhaps stop worrying about porting over anything else from GetOpt Luke - like the plugins for instance. This already has the majority of Luke functionality implemented - it might make sense to simply polish it off and button it up, get it in as a module and then lets new features and development happen organically.
