FAQ
Hi,

I upgraded my DFS to 0.17.2, and now I want to finalize the upgrade to free up disk space on the data nodes (in data/previous). I tried running

/p/share/hadoop/bin/hadoop --config $CONFIG namenode -finalize

on my namenode, but I got this message:

08/08/26 17:34:13 INFO dfs.Storage: Directory /bfd/hadoop/dfs/name/previous does not exist.
08/08/26 17:34:13 INFO dfs.Storage: Finalize upgrade for /bfd/hadoop/dfs/name is not required.
08/08/26 17:34:13 INFO dfs.NameNode: SHUTDOWN_MSG:
/************************************************************
SHUTDOWN_MSG: Shutting down NameNode at [host]

However, on my datanodes, the "previous/" directory still exists, and if I go to the dfshealth.jsp page, it says "Upgrade has been completed. Upgrade is not finalized." Do I need to run namenode -finalize (or something else) on the datanodes?

Thanks,
MIchael
