FAQ
reverse DNS doesnt resolve local loop address 127.0.1.1
-------------------------------------------------------

Key: HADOOP-5339
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-5339
Project: Hadoop Core
Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 0.21.0
Environment: at home, incomplete networking, exploring the consequences
Reporter: Steve Loughran

if the local IPAddr is loopback, then reverse DNS lookup fails. It may be better to recognise this state and return localhost in such a situation, rather than try to look up 1.1.0.127.in-addr.arpa

    Steve Loughran commented on HADOOP-5339:
    ----------------------------------------

This behaviour will be handled in the only place the method {{DNS.reverseDns()}} is currently used; all NamingExceptions are caught and ignored.

I'm modfying the test, -recommend closing this as WONTFIX, but maybe patching the documentation of the method to warn that loopback addresses
    fail
