FAQ
Unable to detect running process from pid file
----------------------------------------------

Key: HADOOP-5316
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-5316
Project: Hadoop Core
Issue Type: Bug
Components: contrib/chukwa
Environment: Redhat EL 5.1, Java 6
Reporter: Eric Yang
Assignee: Eric Yang
Priority: Trivial

Linux ps command output produces white space in front of the pid number, if the pid is lesser than 5 digits number. The current shell script does not parse this correctly for watchdog. In addition, CHUKWA_PID_DIR needs to be better supported by chukwa's shell script. In some of the shell scripts, the reference to pid file is in CHUKWA_HOME/var/run, and this should be changed to CHUKWA_PID_DIR.

    Ari Rabkin commented on HADOOP-5316:

I would actually prefer to get chukwa out of the PIDFile business entirely. This ought to be the responsibility of some service manager, not of Chukwa.
