    Doug Cutting commented on HADOOP-527:
    -------------------------------------

    Overall this looks good.

    The changes to Server.java and RPC.java should be back-compatible. Instead of altering the signatures of existing public methods, please add new methods with the new signatures, then change the old methods to call the new methods with a default value for the new parameter. The old methods can then be deprecated. We try to avoid incompatible changes to public APIs.

    Also, the new config file parameters should be added to hadoop-default.xml.

    Thanks!

    Philippe Gassmann updated HADOOP-527:
    -------------------------------------

    Attachment: patch-bind-on-custom-addr-updated

    Updated patch with old api marked as deprecated and config in hadoop-default.xml.

    I found a parameter in haddop-default.xml that seems not to be used anymore in the java code : mapred.task.tracker.output.port.

    I've done a grep "mapred.task.tracker.output.port" **/*.java (thanks zsh) in the whole source tree and the only result was :
    src/test/org/apache/hadoop/mapred/MiniMRCluster.java: jc.setInt("mapred.task.tracker.output.port", taskTrackerPort++);

    I think it should be removed from hadoop-default.xml
