My suggestion is to use spree for the order and product portion and write
your own extension to handle the actual rental item management. Consider
that the item that you rent and the products you sell may not be 1 to 1.
For instance, I sell a person a movie rental of The Avengers. I might have
11 copies that particular movie but only 1 product in spree. Let spree
handle the selling of the product, which is what it's good at. Let your
extension handle the managing of rental items, which includes tracking
which items are currently loaned out to each person, charging
late/lost/damaged fees (could be an order adjustment in spree), adjusting
stock of a product when a customer returns a rental, etc.
Regards,
Nate
