FAQ
Hellio,

If I do a highstate on the master (salt -v '*' state.highstate) without
increasing the timeout value, a timeout may occur when for instance
packages have to be installed on the minions. The package installation
seems to work but the command on the master results in a "Minion did not
return" message. Is there a way to get the result of the job executed
without increasing the timeout?

salt-run jobs.lookup_jid <some_id>
or
saltutil.find_job
show nothing after the job has completed.

Regards,
Ronald

Try to switch to async mode with salt '*' state.highstate --async. You get
back the job id immediately and you can query it without running into any
    timeouts.
