FAQ
Hi,

We want a CMS built with node.js. We checked what's available and they are
too basic. We want something that's easy to use but has minimum
functionality.

I'm sure you have good intentions, but the general tone of this post
    seems illegitimate.

I'd be wary of being any project pitched this way, and recommend against
any developer exposing themselves to the possibility of exploit for the
promise of "10k in 14 days".

If you are serious Joseph Khoury, I'd recommend a more serious approach.
Who is "we" and why would anyone spend such resources on building a custom
CMS when there are many available for free? Without further explanation, it
    seems illogical.

    Hi

Thank you for your reply and feedback. You'r right it doesn't sound right.
    What I mean is this:
We need to create a customized CMS. It would take us almost the same time
to customize the free available ones which are bulky. We are looking for a
very slim cms that we can add features too. WordPress, Joomla are good but
    we can not use PHP.
The payment is not a promise of payment in 14 days, but a contract paid in
parts during the work until the end of the 14 days. The point was that in
14 days you'll make the 10k and not after the 14 days
"We" are a small consulting company with a small team. Details, contact and
contract will be shared with those who are really interested.

I hope that I have answered your concerns,

    Joseph

I hope that I have answered your concerns,

    You haven't at all.

Based on these emails I'm going to predict with a high certainty that
any developers who choose to work on this project will not get paid.

No legitimate development shop would be pitching a development position
like this. If you are paying 14k for one developer out of three, logically
I'd have to infer your total budget has to be greater then 14k ( assuming
you will pay the other developers and yourself ).

In reality it's unlikely any legitimate client would agree to pay so much
money for something that is already freely available, particularly from a
    non-existent development shop.

If a budget actually exists for this project, it's doubtful it will ever be
    paid out.

No one, because no one was able to do it. It's somewhat a trick question,
because the ultimate solution requires a major modification to how node
apps and npm handle third party module dependencies. At least we got a few
decent OSS projects out of that thread.

I'd also say the level of technical detail specified was high and the
amount of currency involved was low. I do recall a heated Hacker News
debate about the post, but who cares if people read this mailing list.

    :-)

I am working with Joseph on this project, I've been on this list for quite
some time now, and never seen such enthusiasm drifting away from the main
    topic.

Thank you for the people for tried to help or actually said something
    useful.

    @Marak

    - I've never seen a scammer reply to posts, they usually run away when
    you mention "scam"
    - True the initial post wasn't as professional as reading a job post on
a recruiting website or the newspaper, it was a post written in less than a
minute, on a 'mailing list', obviously one with few sensitive members, to
see if anyone is interested, but I didn't think it sounded illegitimate, it
was normal, and tone didn't need all that hype either, we're not
professional recruiters, but when you asked for clarification, you got one
and still, you started investigating why would the client pay more for
something that already exists, why should you care as a developer? We have
a contract in place, you work; you get paid. We don't pay you; you don't
deliver then come back and sue us. You have the right to be skeptical but
    you're judging too fast.
    - Also true that the payments division got a little cheesy, very normal
after the useless torpedo of sarcasm
    - let's not ruin this community by flaming each other, I'm sure we're
all tough behind our keyboards, let's focus efforts on advancing forward,
this kind of arguments slows us all down.

    Plone removed it, IIRC.

What about Plone? It's powerful & flexible Python driven CMS which use
in some government organizations (FBI for ex.):

Some combination of Plone and Node.js is possible too:

I apologize in advance for offtopic in this mail-list, especially in

    Plone is a CMS and Node.JS -- async. I/O framework -- absolutely

No, really. Plone is slow as molasses.
Really? Sites described at article in my prev. mail and many other

large number of users. So, rumors about Plone slowness are strongly
exaggerated (especially for Plone 4) -- your portal just must be

-- too). Plone.org site contains many materials about programming,
setting and tuning for high-load sites -- ZEO-clustering, caching,
using of external engines (like Node.JS) and data-storages, and etc...
And not easy to change the layout.
Do you mean sites design? In Plone you may implement any design. Many
things you may do by buttons clicking and themes choosing, all other
things may be done by common tools by common designers + some kind of
templates hacking and programming, as in many other web-oriented
    solutions.
The CMS "market" is depressing. The only good looking ones are

Many markets was died, but it's does not mean stopping of development.
What can you say about web-browser market? It was died many years ago,
but "browser wars" only wars becoms more violent.

About popularity -- PHP solutions more popular for 5$ hosting, and
    Plone -- for education/scientific/government self-hosted sites. But
this discussion seems like offtopic for this list -- Plone/PHP/CMS
    mailing lists looks more appropriate.

And what is conclusion? It is consequence of general designs weakness
-- for Plone developed many 3-td party products and extensions too,
but Plone sites was not hacked. It's like UNIX/Linux and Windows --
the root of viruses in base OS architecture.

Ufff... And finally -- I'm very sorry again for large and mostly
offtopic post, but may be, if someone really interested to develop
Node.JS based CMS, looking to Zope/Plone mechanics -- like a sandbox
isolation, roles and permissions, etc may be helpful.

    Oleg,

Thank you for your reply. I have respect for Plone. I guess it can get even
faster when it's components and core can benefit from PyPy.
I think we can all benefit from easier, faster, simpler, smarter and more
    secure CMS

It would be better/greener to use 3 servers instead of 5 or 10 for busy
    websites.
I said before that my previous post was the last one, but wanted to thank
you for taking the time to share your point.

How hard is it for you to understand 1k a day for 14 days

Unfortunately, I'm pretty bad at math, so it's very hard for me to
    understand.

Question: First you stated the compensation for this work would be a
"prize". Now you are starting it's: hourly, daily, and fixed rate.

Which of these four payment methods is the real one? Prize? Hourly? Daily?
Or a 14 day fixed rate contract?

Hourly is paid per hour. Daily is paid per day. A 14 day minimal contract
at a fixed rate, is fixed rate. I'm not sure what the payout structure for
    a "prize" is.

    Wait....how does 1k a day for 14 days add up to 10k?

    That IS hard to understand.

no one will wait until the end of day 14 to get paid. This is an hourly,
daily contract with a minimum of 14 days availability commitment.

I appreciate helpful feedback or guidance into the right direction, like

    Hehehe

    10/14 +10/14 + ... = 10k over a 14 days period

    You'r having fun, e?

hourly*8 hours * 14 becomes daily. No one will pay you for your hourly
rates every 60 minutes. You will get paid either at the end of the day or
week depending on what you agree on.
Maybe someone will: Hey, 60 minutes passed already. Let us take a break and
let me pay you for your hour! Thank you

I am answering you because I am enjoying the silliness of this conversation

for me prize = reward = something you get for something you did

    enough on this.

Now seriously, I am looking for a node.js Ninja.

    Marak,

I do have great respect for your work. I would like to clear 2 things
    a) I am serious. But does not have to be too serious.
    b) I am NOT running a scam. I did not ask anyone to pay for anything nor
work for free. If i can change the title I would have put " Looking for a
Node.js dev, needed for 14 days"

    Thank you

Did you bother reading the whole post, or did you just decide to comment
    because you felt like talking?

In my first post I politely asked for a clarification
and received an insufficient answer. Based on this new information, I drew
    a conclusion.

I'm perfectly fine with losing any potential acquaintances who would post a
"job" like this to the board. I've been involved with too many "small
development shops" who simultaneously steal from their clients and
employees under the guise of good intentions.

Okay firstly, I did not say you are wrong/incorrect. Secondly I have read

I fail to see the comparison here.

It seems like you have no way to defend your position as legitimate and are
now redirecting and making personal attacks based on whatever you can
    Google.

I've done my due diligence in this thread to warn any potential developers
who have not experienced fraud at the hand of an employeer or client.

I'm done here. Good day sir.

no one will wait until the end of day 14 to get paid. This is an hourly,

Veezus , it is stupid indeed :) maybe it should be deleted

why build another CMS? can we all agree on which CMS is the best in regards
to security, speed and customization? If we did, we would not have 1200
    CMSs in the wild.

if you did analyze the current cms into detail and none of this work, 14
days are not good enough to build the solution.

post the requirements and i can tell you the time.
