I thought maybe somehow my go install got hosed, so I uninstalled, update
to golang 1.6 and the issue still persists.

On windows 7, running in a Git Shell (powershell)

results of a go env:

C:\code\go> go env
set GOARCH=amd64
set GOBIN=c:\Code\go\bin
set GOEXE=.exe
set GOHOSTARCH=amd64
set GOHOSTOS=windows
set GOOS=windows
set GOPATH=c:\Code\go
set GORACE=
set GOROOT=c:\go\bin
set GOTOOLDIR=c:\go\bin\pkg\tool\windows_amd64
set GO15VENDOREXPERIMENT=1
set CC=gcc
set GOGCCFLAGS=-m64 -mthreads -fmessage-length=0
set CXX=g++
set CGO_ENABLED=1

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

C:\go\bin is not a valid GOROOT. Don't set GOROOT and you should be fine.
