I can only see one thread in gdb with
a meaningful backtrace to me.

How can I see the other goroutine and
its backtrace? Can I switch to it and
examine local variables there?
I do not know of a way to examine different goroutines when using
gccgo.

There is some support for it when using gc in
https://code.google.com/p/go/source/browse/src/pkg/runtime/runtime-gdb.py,
and it may be possible to adjust that support to work for gccgo.
