FAQ
Hi!

I got the answer from an Unix Admin...

There are three ways:

If you can reboot the machine you can see it on startup.

If not, use SAM (type sam at # prompt) and go to performance monitors,
system properties.

echo 'itick_per_usec/D' | adb /stand/vmunix /dev/mem

echo 'runningprocs/D' | adb /stand/vmunix /dev/mem

hth,
Helmut

Hi!

I'm new to HP-UX and need to find out how many processors are in a mchine
and at what clock speed they operate. I can get the number of CPUs through
glance or top, but I have no idea about the clock speed. How would I get
that information?

I would know how to do it on Solaris though...;)

Thanks,
Helmut

    Here is a very complex program that will do the same thing:

    #!/usr/bin/perl -w
    use strict;
    open SYSLOG,"/var/log/syslog" ||

    die "Cannot open syslog:$!";
    while () {

    if (/HZ/i) {

    print;
    exit;

    }
    }
    And here is the result:

    [root_at_tux925 tmp]# ./clock.pl
    Oct 9 01:27:18 localhost kernel: Detected 2187.741 MHz processor.
    [root_at_tux925 tmp]#

    I believe that tells you all that you wanted to know.

    I don't know whether HP-UX has /proc/cpuinfo, but that is the
    place where the information about CPU is recorded.

    Subject: Re: Solved: Find CPU clock speed on HP-UX 11

    Here is a very complex program that will do the same thing:

    #!/usr/bin/perl -w
    use strict;
    open SYSLOG,"/var/log/syslog" ||
    die "Cannot open syslog:$!";
    while () {
    if (/HZ/i) {
    print;
    exit;
    }
    }
    And here is the result:

    [root_at_tux925 tmp]# ./clock.pl
    Oct 9 01:27:18 localhost kernel: Detected 2187.741 MHz processor.
    [root_at_tux925 tmp]#

    I believe that tells you all that you wanted to know.

    Hi!

    I got the answer from an Unix Admin...

    There are three ways:

    1) If you can reboot the machine you can see it on startup.

    2) If not, use SAM (type sam at # prompt) and go to performance
    monitors,
    system properties.

    3) echo 'itick_per_usec/D' | adb /stand/vmunix /dev/mem

    echo 'runningprocs/D' | adb /stand/vmunix /dev/mem

    Hi!

    I'm new to HP-UX and need to find out how many processors are in a
    mchine
    and at what clock speed they operate. I can get the number of CPUs
    through
    glance or top, but I have no idea about the clock speed. How would I
    get
    that information?

    I would know how to do it on Solaris though...;)

    Thanks,
    Helmut
