SQL> CREATE USER IDENTIFIED BY [DEFAULT TABLESPACE
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE ]

    for importing on command prompt

    imp username/password_at_database fromuser= touser=
    file=

If you just want the table structure and no data then use ROWS=N option too.

    Santosh,

Time to break out the documentation (a.k.a RTFM).

"create user identified by default tablespace temporary tablespace quota on ". You will also need to grant some resources to this user. First things first "CONNECT" would be a good idea..

Then break out the docs on "Import". Or read the web site as listed in every email message to this list:

    http://www.orafaq.com/faqiexp.htm

If you have any more specific questions, fire away :)

    Santosh, you need to either:

    take a DBA course
go to technet.oracle.com and start reading the administrators guide.

Oh yea, my fault, didn't read mail till the end

Blah, I don't know, usually if I had installed various oracle client tools like Designer, Forms, Reports etc I had also imp*. I'm sure it isn't as a standalone tool in installer, maybe it is located under tools/utilities, if I remember correctly...
Last time when I installed something from oracle was at least 1.5 years ago :(

    Santosh,

imp should be available on the machine if Oracle software is installed on the machine.

Perhaps that machine might be having more than one disk and Oracle software would have been installed on another disk.

    Do the following:

    Check the number of disks.

Then on each disk --- try to find dir imp*

If the installation was to a PC, then check what type of installation was
installed. If you used the Enterprise Edition Server CD then you should
have chosen the "Custom" installation or "Client/DBA" installation option.
The "Client/End User" option does not install Import and Export utilities.
Do not select the "Client/Programmer" option either. The DBA option
installs the DBA tools, and import is considered something for the DBA to
use. As for how do you create a user, if you don't know, then I don't
think it is a good idea to attempt to even do an import unitl you have
become more familiar with Oracle DBA basics. Or you can use the Security
Manager GUI installed with OEM. (That is an option also.)

If it is windows, you'll have to use dir imp*.* to capture those with
    extensions of .exe

What kind of client do you have?
Maybe the install installed only net8 without the utilities?

    Check if you have exp*.

There were imp73 and imp80 for appropriate versions, I don't know about more
    recent ones

If you just want the table structure and no data then use ROWS=N option too.

    Santosh,

Are you looking on your client, or the server where Oracle is installed?

imp can be installed in either location - as others have mentioned, expect
it on the server by default, but not the client. My preference would be to
work on the server if possible since it removes the network and can
    therefore be quicker.

Also, for what it's worth, I have an 8.1.7.4 client installed here and imp
is called imp.exe, installed in \oracle\ora81\bin - But since they like to
move things around all the time that piece of info is probably useless.

    Please respond to
    ORACLE-L

He mentions checking /oracle/bin, not $ORACLE_HOME/bin.

Santosh: If this is a Windows environment (as it seems to be) you can check
the Registry Editor for the value of ORACLE_HOME (it should be under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE)

Probably he is not in %ORACLE_HOME%/bin directory.

A 'Find' for imp* on all drives would tell where it is hiding..

Not really. dir imp* will list all files which start with 'imp'

so it will list imp.exe, imp80.exe, imp.log etc

But I'm clueless as to why there is nothing like imp or imp80 in the
%oracle_home%/bin. Use some other machine to do the import, is the only
    solution i can offer

    Regards
    Naveen
