FAQ
hi,
I am trying to install CDH 4 on a cluster of Red Hat x86_64

[root@hdp1 ~]# uname -a

Linux hdp1 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Jan 29 11:47:41 EST 2013 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have installed the Cloudera Standard 4.7.3 (#1634.5) and log in to my
server. After selecting the machine it is recommended to use parcel
download but this button is disabled. There is a note that says that no
parcels has been found but after, in the log i can check that is reading
one parcel:

I finally make a manual installation, and now I have a CDH4 cluster working.
Now that I'm checking again my configuration of Cloudera-manager, I
realized that have not been installed cloudera-scm-agent. I cannot see
anyplace (no log, no service, ...). It Is not inside the Cloudera manager
by default? I don't understand why is not in my configuration.

    Hi Rul,

Normally when you first log in to Cloudera Manager, it will prompt you to
add hosts to your cluster (which installs the cloudera manager agents on
each host) and install CDH binaries. Did you try going through this wizard?
You need to add hosts and assign hosts to a cluster before you can add
    parcels to a cluster.

If it isn't coming up for you automatically, you can get to it by
    navigating to the url <cm_host>:7180/cmf/express-wizard/welcome

Our installation documentation is available here:
    http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera-content/cloudera-docs/CM4Ent/latest/Cloudera-Manager-Installation-Guide/Cloudera-Manager-Installation-Guide.html

    Thanks,
    Darren

    Hi Darren,
    first, thanks for your response.
About your comment, as I told in my first post "... log in to my server.
After selecting the machine it is recommended to use parcel download but
this button is disabled." i was referring about the Cloudera Manager from
its UI. I can choose for the host and it recognize it but after when I must
select a parcel, noone is available.

After go indeed a lot about this problem, finally I decided to install
manually CDH4. Now, that I check again the installation of Cloudera Manager
I can check that cloudera agent are not running nor installed in my server,
so I think that something was wrong in Cloudera manager installation. Is it
possible to install only the agent packages?

    Best regards,

    Hi Rul,

If you'd like to use the Cloudera Manager wizard and parcels, could you
provide a screenshot so we can understand exactly what went wrong?

It's possible you don't have your parcel repositories correctly set up
and/or you don't normal internet access and need to configure a proxy or
    something.

If you want to install Cloudera Manager agents and CDH manually (since
you've already installed CDH manually), you can go through our docs for
    that installation path here:
    http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera-content/cloudera-docs/CM4Ent/4.6.2/Cloudera-Manager-Installation-Guide/cmig_install_path_B.html?scroll=cmig_topic_6_6

Make sure you also review the steps used to install CDH to make sure there
    wasn't a mistake there.

    Thanks,
    Darren

    Hi Rul,

I'm glad you got it working. If you'd like to get parcels working, let us
know. I suspect it's an issue with connecting to the remote parcel
repository due to internet access restrictions.

    Thanks,
    Darren

About what you say about Cloudera Manager wizard, now that my hosts are
managed from Cloudera manager, I cannot reach the page from select Parcels,
but the problem was that CM do not download anything nor detect into UI the
    parcel in my local folder.

Maybe the problem with the installation with cloudera agent could be the
    responsible, but, I'm not sure.
In any case, thanks a lot for your help.
