FAQ
Good morning!

I have a 5 node cloudera cluster installed by cloudera manager.

I first start zookeeper, then hdfs.

When I start the mapreduce jobtracker I get a FATAL with stderr

Supervisor returned FATAL: + HADOOP_CLASSPATH='/usr/share/cmf/lib/plugins/tt-instrumentation-4.5.3.jar:/usr/share/cmf/lib/plugins/event-publish-4.5.3-shaded.jar:/usr/share/cmf/lib/plugins/navigator-plugin-4.5.3-shaded.jar:/opt/cloudera/parcels/CDH-4.2.1-1.cdh4.2.1.p0.5/lib/hadoop-hdfs/lib/*:/opt/cloudera/parcels/CDH-4.2.1-1.cdh4.2.1.p0.5/lib/hadoop-hdfs/*:/opt/cloudera/parcels/CDH-4.2.1-1.cdh4.2.1.p0.5/lib/hadoop/lib/*:/opt/cloudera/parcels/CDH-4.2.1-1.cdh4.2.1.p0.5/lib/hadoop/*::'

Can some please help me identifying the error. I simply do not see the
problem.

best regards
Stefan

    I pasted the relevant log entry at pastebin

    Log-Name: hadoop-cmf-mapreduce1-JOBTRACKER-romeo0.lan.log

    org.apache.hadoop.security.AccessControlException: Permission denied:
    user=mapred, access=WRITE, inode="/":hdfs:supergroup:drwxr-xr-x

    Suggests that the mapred user is trying to create /tmp/mapred/system (the
    error didn't say that; I just know it), and is failing. The wizard when
    you first installed should have created the directory, but you can do it
    manually by creating a sticky-bit tmp directory with "sudo -u hdfs hadoop
    fs -mkdir /tmp; sudo -u hdfs hadoop fs -chmod 1777 /tmp"
