FAQ
I have been installing cloudera manager enterprise free on a single node
which I would like to run for testing purposes using pseudo distributed mode

when I go to add services, it can't find any hosts, the host check on the
node with the server reports no problems.

any clue of what I need to do or change?

Not finding any hosts suggests to me that the agent isn't heartbeating.
When you go to the "hosts" page, do you see anything? If you don't see a
host there, then check the /var/log/cloudera-scm-agent/* logs.

if I go to cmf/hardware/hosts I see a host that is heartbeating.

Have you added a cluster to your Cloudera Manager? Then add your host to
    that cluster.

That should allow you to add services

    Christopher,

It looks like the host is in CM just fine. Could you send us a screenshot
of where it's saying there are no hosts to add? That might help pinpoint
your problem. Attachments are sometimes fuzzy over mailing lists, but it's
    worth a shot.

    I go to cmf/services/status

on the right click add a service

    /cmf/add-service-wizard/select-service?clusterId=2

    choose hdfs which goes to

    cmf/add-service-wizard/select-hosts?clusterId=2&serviceType=HDFS&serviceVersion=4

When you were in the "hosts" page, there's a column for the hosts which
indicates which "cluster" the host participates in. I assume that's empty,
    which is the problem.

So, what you need to do is, from the "hosts" page, click "add new hosts to
cluster". (I assume you have an empty cluster, since you could find the
"add service" link). Click ok, then select the "currently managed hosts
(1)" tab, and add the host there. Then you'll be able to add the service.

If this is indeed the state you're in, I'm a bit curious how you got there,
    but that's a separate topic.

If you're interested in a pseudo-distributed cluster, note that we have a
VM available that is set up like this, which might be useful.

    Christopher,

It looks like the host is in CM just fine. Could you send us a
screenshot of where it's saying there are no hosts to add? That might help
pinpoint your problem. Attachments are sometimes fuzzy over mailing lists,
    but it's worth a shot.

Note on centos 6 the rc?.d directories are in /etc not in /etc/init.d

When you go to the "hosts" page, do you see anything? If you don't see a
host there, then check the /var/log/cloudera-scm-agent/* logs.

any clue of what I need to do or change?
