FAQ
Hi,

CM questions should be directed to scm-users as the CM developers
monitor that list.

Hi,

We're currently deploying a test cluster of 10 nodes using CDH4. We started
a couple of weeks ago with the 4.0.3 version of Cloudera Manager (free
version because we don't need the entreprise features for our proof of
concept project).

Yesterday, we upgraded to the 4.1 version of the manager package to try out
Impala (which does not want to start btw.. but that's another issue!)

Turns out that the "host" tab in the website does not show load, cpu, ram
and swap of the machines anymore like it did in 4.0.3.

Couple of questions :
1)Is this normal ?
2)Is there something else that was there in 4.0.3 that's not part of the
free version of 4.1 ? The literature seems to indicate that you need the
paid version to "configure and manage" Impala and HBase... I was under the
impression that the 4.0.3 version was able to do that for HBase right?
3)Is is possible to downgrade from the 4.1 to the 4.0.3 manager? I did a
backup of the postgre db before upgrading (pg_dump)

If our POC is a success we'll probably deploy a cluster in a production
environment and check the pricing of the paid version... but right now,
we're in the testing phase and loosing features like that is a bummer... We
wo0uld rather not to have to switch to something else for this (ex : Zabbix)

Thanks!

    Hi Philippe,
    1)Is this normal ?
We modified the Hosts page to have two modes under the drop down menu *View
    Columns*.

    1. *Current States* (Default)
This mode displays the state of each host.

    2. *Physical Attributes*
This mode displays the CPU, Memory, Load information as before.

There are some technical limitations/reasons why we chose 1 as the default
    view.
However, both views are URL addressable, so you can bookmark them if you
    need quicker access.

2)Is there something else that was there in 4.0.3 that's not part of the
free version of 4.1 ? The literature seems to indicate that you need the
paid version to "configure and manage" Impala and HBase... I was under the

You should still be able to configure and manage Impala and HBase using the
    free version of 4.1.

What you don't get are the monitoring features, which has not changed since
    4.0.3.

4.1 should not have any features removed from the 4.0.3 version.
However, we made some adjustments to accomodate the newer features.

    Thanks for the answer.

Looks like I did not look at the page carefully enough! My bad.
