Larry,

I have moved this over to our Cloudera Manager mailing list. I have also
added you to the thread in case you are not a part of SCM users.

I’m trying to build a cluster with the latest CDH4 using the manager.
Everything goes great, up to the point it inspects all of the nodes. It
only inspects the node I’m installing the manager on. I’ve selected the
other nodes, it installs on all the nodes, but then only inspects the first
node. It builds a cluster with just one node. If I let it complete, I can
select all of the other nodes to add to the cluster, but it never adds
them. No errors; it just ignores me. I’ve uninstalled, removed everything
the doc suggests and everything else I can think of, re-installed, no luck,
same result. I’ve build clusters with the manager before, so I know it
works and it’s a whole lot easier than configuring each node. Any ideas?*

I had high hopes that 4.1 would fix this, but unfortunately it doesn't.

I've uninstalled manager, deleted eveything I could think of that remained,
re-installed. Everything is great until the inspection step. It only
inspects one node, the same node that manager is on. It never offers to
configure or includes the other 10 nodes. It installs CDH4 on all the
nodes, but never inspects them or lets me add them to the cluster.

    Larry,

What is the name of the host that shows up? Also, what are the contents of
the /etc/hosts file for your machines?

I'm trying to install as follows:

    phxhamaster - manger 4.1 + namenode + jobtracker

The other 10 nodes (phxha01 thru phxha10) are datanodes and tasktrackers.
The /etc/host files on all of the machines are empty (default stuff). DNS
resolution works for all nodes. I can select the nodes, but inspection
    only finds phxhamaster.

I've added all nodes the the /etc/hosts file on phxhamaster and tried it
again. Same thing. Inspects just phxhamaster although it installed on all
    11 machines.

If install is succeeding, but the inspector only reports the server host
back, the mostly likely cause is a firewall
blocking the other machines from contacting the server machine. By default,
    rhel has such a firewall.
