Hi All,


When I run a host inspector validation on my hosts I get the following
message:
"The numeric user id of the HDFS user varies across hosts. This may cause
issues with some NFS servers if the NameNode uses data directories stored
on shared storage."

Is there any known way to get rid of this error? I followed the Path B
method of installation for CDH4 and CM4.

    Currently we do not use any shared storage and future also we are not
    planning to do so, on the other hand just to get rid of this error message
    if I go and change the numeric user under /etc/passwd will not be a good
    idea since some files already created by HDFS will refer to the old uid.

    Shall I just ignore this error message and run the services?

    It's fine to ignore the error if you don't plan to use shared storage.

    if i use usrmod and change the number of the account hdfs hwo will that
    impact, will it cause any further issue to the cluster at the later point?

    Hi Venkata,

    Why do you seek to change the UIDs/GIDs of the installed users? Are
    they posing problems?

    Venkata,

    The user id mismatch is only an issue if you plan to use NFS shared storage
    for HA. Since CDH 4.1, a much better form of HA (quorum-based) is
    available, so we don't recommend the NFS-based HA anymore. You should use
    that instead, and not worry about uid mismatch.
