FAQ
Hello,

I'm trying to install Cloudera Manager 4.0 Free Edition on SUSE on EC2
(with this image https://aws.amazon.com/amis/amazon-public-images-suse-linux-enterprise-server-11-sp1-64-bit)
and I'm getting the following error:

Cloudera Manager Server failed to start. See /var/log/cloudera-manager-
installer/7.start-scm-server.log for details.

In /var/log/cloudera-manager-installer/7.start-scm-server.log:
Starting cloudera-scm-server: ..failed

I haven't been able to find any help via search, and the error message
isn't very descriptive. Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Thanks,
Brendan Benson

    Hi Brendan,

Is there a log in the /var/log/cloudera-scm-server/ ? That may provide
    more information.

Well, I found the solution right after sending that message.

    After some digging, I found
    /var/log/cloudera-scm-server/cloudera-scm-server.out which told me:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

I had been trying to install CM on a micro instance (as a test before
going big) with only 612MB of memory. Upgrading to a medium instance
with more memory fixed the problem.
