FAQ
Hi.
Here is a doc:
http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera-content/cloudera-docs/Impala/latest/Installing-and-Using-Impala/ciiu_file_formats.html

So, Impala can read:
1. Text files
2. Text files with LZO compression
....some other formats with and without compression...

***Impala can't read text file with Snappy compression***? Yes?

Yes, that is correct. In addition, Snappy's just a codec and does not
have a container format, while LZO provides LZOP containers, which are
    splittable by design.
