The symptoms were discovered by Marcin Skaldaniec: http://objectstyle.org/cayenne/lists/cayenne-user/2006/04/0128.html

The actual cause turned out to be a property descriptor bug (SimpleProperty.read/writeProperty is expected to resolve property owner faults, but it didn't). This caused ObjectDetachOperation to produce empty objects.

This is now fixed in CVS.
