I took a look at it. Turns out, it's not especially cool.
First, it isn't GP, as the author claims. It's GA.
And as GA goes, it's not the least bit sophisticated.

I used to agree 100%, but then I started working Perl development contracts and saw so much very very very bad Perl that it occured to me that a laid-back language like Perl often leads to code so laid back it could do with some of the formalities often imposed by project managers on huge teams of C programmers. Many of the AI-related branches are closely related to heavy calculus, which if, of course, stupid to implement entirely in Perl. However, there are quite a lot of other AI-related features that can be perfectly written in Perl with no loss in performance and a dramatical gain in maintainance.
