FAQ
Thanks for the tip Chris. I checked and perl was indeed not installed so I
installed it but I still get exactly the same error. I'm wondering if there
is another package I'm missing?? I'm off digging now.

This seems to be a really basic problem but I've search everywhere and
struggled for several days and cannot get past it.

Three bare metal machines with fresh CentOS 6.4 installed. Two (IBM & Dell
servers respectively) will be data nodes have minimal installs and one (Mgr
workstation) will be manager with minimal desktop package.

I've downloaded all the rpms and built the repository on the manager and
it appears to be working fine. All networking configured and working fine.
Iptables and selinux disabled on all machines. These three are on a lab
bench and are isolated from the rest of the network however I can enable
internet access as needed. I do have another machine connect to the network
that I use to shell into these three with.

Everything goes fine until Cloudera Manager begins to install the 2 nodes.
I get this error:

For simplicity I made all ip addressed static.

Here's the hosts file which is on all three machines:
[mgr@Mgr ~]$ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4
localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6
localhost6.localdomain6
192.168.21.230 Mgr.testlab.net Mgr
192.168.21.231 IBM.testlab.net IBM
192.168.21.232 Dell.testlab.net Dell

I notice the reverse lookup so brought up named on the manger(Mgr). It
properly responds to the host command as shown:
[mgr@Mgr ~]$ host -t PTR 192.168.21.230
230.21.168.192.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer Mgr.testlab.net.
[mgr@Mgr ~]$

named appears to be working fine in case this is helpful:
[mgr@Mgr ~]$ dig www.testlab.net

I've gone through all the log files and the only indication of any problem
was this:

snip
Enabled remote connections
waiting for server to shut down.... done
server stopped
DB initialization done.
could not change directory to "/home/mgr/Downloads"
could not change directory to "/home/mgr/Downloads"
waiting for server to start.... done
server started

from the /var/log/cloudera-manager-installer file: 4.start-embedded-db.log

The installer successfully checked the jdk package from my local
repository and found nothing to do (I installed them before hand to make
sure all the machines had the exact same version:
java -version
java version "1.7.0_09-icedtea"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (rhel-2.3.4.1.el6_3-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.2-b09, mixed mode)

I thought I'd see something about Java versions but I've looked at all the
manuals and can't find that comment again.

I'm out of ideas and looked at blogs, FAQs and googling hasn't helped.

Suggestions and ideas welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Mike
