FAQ
Hi Nicholas,

I'm moving this over to scm-users@cloudera.org as that's the more
appropriate forum. I've BCCed cdh-user and CCed you just in case
you're not subscribed to the other list.

I think you're getting tripped up by looking at the CDH docs rather
than the CM docs. It sounds like you already have CM installed, so you
probably want the user guide:

https://ccp.cloudera.com/display/FREE41DOC/Cloudera+Manager+Free+Edition+User+Guide

In particular, there's a section on adding hosts to the cluster. The
wizard should have installed all of the packages, so after you're done
adding the hosts you need to add the roles for the new hosts for each
services. The specific section of the docs you need are here:

https://ccp.cloudera.com/display/FREE41DOC/Adding+Role+Instances

Hi everyone

I have added 2 extra hosts to my cluster in the manager web interface.
After restart should I be seeing 3 regionservers in Hbase?
when I use start Roles in the host interface my new nodes don't seem to have
any roles possible only the first host has all possible roles.
As well when I access each lost and check ressources the new ones don't have
any proposed ressources.

Hi kevin

Ok now I am definitly completely confused and all the pain I'm feeling
with this technology probably comes from an initla misunderstanding.
I have installed cloudear manager 4.1 from the recommended link:
https://ccp.cloudera.com/display/SUPPORT/Downloads
So If I am not mistaken I do have cloudera manager 4.1 and CDH4.1

Nick,

I would recommend using Cloudera Manager 4.1 with CDH4.1. It will make
your life a lot easier :)

Hi everyone

I'm moving from CDH stand alone to cluster set up.
And I am a bit confused byt he documentation:
https://ccp.cloudera.com/display/CDH4DOC/Deploying+CDH4+on+a+Cluster

In order to get a cluster running do I have install a standalone on
every node (master and slaves) and edit the xml files to set all accordingly
much like a custom Hbase set up?
Or does the fact off adding hosts in the cloudera manager web ui
suffice.

I'm looking at the UI and don't see where to set master and
corresponding slave nodes.
If I look in the conf directories I don't see a regionservers file or
anything off the likes.

I want to see if the cluster mode might resolve my standalone issues.

regards
