FAQ
Hi Romit,

I have worked with others who were doing the same, so it is certainly
possible.
The closest public documentation that we have is our Installation Path B,
which discusses installing all components from RPM
https://ccp.cloudera.com/display/ENT4DOC/Installation+Path+B+-+Installation+Using+Your+Own+Method

In general, the process would look like:
Pre-bake each worker node with CDH4 software and Cloudera Manager Agent and
Cloudera Manager Daemon RPMs installed - be sure to set
/etc/cloudera-scm-agent/config.ini on each machine such that the agents
will be heartbeating to the right hostname/IP of the CM server.

On the CM machine, additionally install the Cloudera Manager RPM.

Go through the Web UI of CM as you would otherwise, but you will be able to
"skip searching for host" and "skip CDH installation," as all of your hosts
would already have the required software and already be heartbeating to the
server. You would then just select which hosts perform which roles, and
start up those services via CM.

Hope this helps
Thanks

Hello,

We are using a different cluster management solution for installing CDH4
on our clusters since we deploy the entire software stack including the OS
using pre-built images.

After we installed the cluster, we would to use cloudera manager for
managing this cluster. Is this scenario supported and do we have any
documentation supporting the use-case.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Romit.
