John Russell: PP, that would be by creating a table of the required format (for example, a text table with comma, tab, or pipe as the separator) and then doing: INSERT OVERWRITE ... SELECT The results might come out as multiple data files, just because of the nature of the distributed query. If you wanted the results to appear in a specific HDFS directory, you would use CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE ... LOCATION to define the output directory.
