[Pig-dev] [jira] [Created] (PIG-2542) Jython UDFs only work if the python file is in the current directory

Jython UDFs only work if the python file is in the current directory
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Key: PIG-2542
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PIG-2542
Project: Pig
Issue Type: Bug
Components: parser
Affects Versions: 0.8.1, 0.9.2
Environment: Cloudera thingy 0.8.1 and apache pig 0.9.2
Reporter: Russell Jurney
Priority: Critical

Calling this a bug because of how confusing it is.

If the pig script and the Jython UDFs aren't in the same directory, Pig will fail in a very non-descriptive way. Improve error message, and allow other paths than . is the fix.

    ---------------------------------

    Can you be more specific? I can make it in all following cases:
    register 'rel/scriptingudf.py' using jython as myfuncs;
    register './rel/scriptingudf.py' using jython as myfuncs;
    register '/Users/daijy/pig/rel/scriptingudf.py' using jython as myfuncs;

    How about '../rel/scriptingudf.py'?
