FAQ
Hi

It still doesn't work. I have added this fileset part as a top level child i.e) as a element of the project in the build.xml file. I am pasting the Fileset part of my ant xml file..

<fileset dir = "../Client/src/com/antpml" >
<exclude name="../Client/src/com/antpml/AntennaModelTool.java"/>
</fileset>

and the build.xml file is in Client directory.

I also tried with the exclude attribute of javac and it didn't work.

Thanks

Hi Laxma,

You can use the <exclude> tag in the <fileset> to exclude a particular
file (assuming you know the file name), like

<fileset dir="path/to/involved/directories">
<exclude name="path/to/file/you/want/excluded">
</fileset>

Hope this answers your question.

And again I can't delete that file from that directory as it is a shared file.

    Hi,

    Is there anyway to debug my ant build.xml file..What I mean is Can I display the paths somehow to display on my screen like echoing or system.out.println..so that I can look with my eyes if some path structure is wrong.

    Hi Laxma,

    You can try the -verbose option

    The name attribute should contain a relative path, relative to the
    directory of the fileset. Use name="AntennaModelTool.java" instead.

    It may be the problem with specifying full path. Keep the verbose option on
    to see what is exact path that's being excluded.

    btw, Did you try this?

    <fileset dir = "../Client/src/com/antpml" >
    <exclude name="**/antpml/AntennaModelTool.java"/>
    </fileset>

    The responses that your fileset was not being used
    were correct. In addition to this, I find your
    definition of the property compile_classpath very
    "uncomfortable." This may be getting set the way you
    desire but I would be extremely wary here. You may
    want to view this with debug output if you continue to
    have bad results. I would imagine it to be far more
    common to define paths using nested elements if they
    are longer than what would fit comfortably on a single
    line (see path-like structures documentation in
    Concepts and Types in the Ant manual).

    The <fileset> tag you have used doesn't form the task of any operation.It will not get executed.
    Put <exclude> under javac task.

    Laxma,

    Patrick is right in saying that the fileset that you define is not used in
    your build file.

    Concerning the elements of your source path, I have the following
    suggestions :

    <--! instead of ${oclient_root}/com -->
    <property name="src1" location="${oclient_root}"/>

    <--! instead of ${utilities_root}/src/com" -->
    <property name="src2" location="${utilities_root}/src"/>
    <--! instead of
    ${utilities_root}/${platform_root}/src/com/nokia/configurator/optimizer/plat
    form/pfiif;" -->
    <property name="src3" location="${platform_root}/src"/>
    <--! instead of ${pfutil_root}/src/com -->
    <property name="src4" location="${pfutil_root}/src"/>
    <property name="src5" location="../optimizer_RasterCalc/src"/>
    <property name="src6" location="../optimizer_AdjacencyManagement/src"/>
    <property name="src7" location="../optimizer_CalculationFramework/src "/>

    Your source directories should always be the ones containing the com subdir.

    Then, nesting in your javac task
    <exclude name="com/xyz/zut/SomeFile.java" should work and exclude
    SomeFile.java.

    Yours,
    Antoine

    This is a standard javac thing !
    Even though you specify some files to compile, javac will automatically
    compile the files that needs to be compiled (mainly because they are
    being used in some compiled class) ...
    If one class being compiled relies on another one not present in the
    classpath, or not present in the src directories, the build will fail !

    So here this is the problem you must be encoutering ... Although your
    file is not being compiled explicitely, it is compiled by javac because
    it needs it !

    Simon.
